The Judge's Verdict:
football 2019 Week 13
December 5, 2019
CASE SUMMARY:
When it has come to big fantasy points this season, the Miami Dolphins have generally been on the wrong end of it. Even this week, the 2nd-highest scoring WR was Alshon Jeffery, who played at Miami. His 9-for-137 (plus a TD) day came as a surprise to many since Jeffery had been sidelined with an ankle injury for the previous 4 weeks. However the *top* scoring WR was Miami's own DeVante Parker, who caught 7 passes for 159 yards and 2 TDs. It was Parker's first multi-TD game in his 5-year career and a career best in yardage. His 31 points (1/2 PPR) was obviously a best, in fact Parker had never exceeded 20 points before. For Jeffery, who finished with 9 catches, 137 yards and a TD, it was the first 100-yard game of the season, and his best fantasy total since 2015.
The week's top fantasy scorer overall was New England's James White, who, for only the second time this season, got more rushing attempts than Sony Michel (14-for-79, vs Michel's 10-for-45). White's participation in the passing game was not a surprise, although his total output may have been: 8 catches, 98 yards, and 2 TDs. Coming into the game, White had scored only two TDs all season. White's best fantasy day had been last year's 27 point day against Miami (see?) but on Sunday he exceeded that total by 6. More interestingly (or frustrating, for White's owners) was that this performance came immediately after his worst game by far, when he had only 3 total touches for negative 1 yard, in heavy rain against Dallas. Earlier in the season, Michel was the more productive fantasy back, as he collected 6 TDs in the first 7 games. However since Week 8, White has outscored Michel every game except that Dallas debacle, as Michel has not scored during this period.
NOTE: Since this was Thanksgiving week, there were 3 games played on Thursday instead of the usual one. The Fantasy Judge normally gathers his ranking data as late in the week as possible, and did so this week on Sunday morning. Fantasy experts may (and should, if they are providing the latest updates) adjust their rankings after Thursday games are played, therefore it is highly likely that the experts changed some rankings after the Thursday games were played.
DEFENDANT TESTIMONY:
4for4
Ranked White 33rd among WRs, with Parker 20th and Jeffery 33rd among WRs.
Huddle
Ranked Parker 24th and Jeffery 35th. White was 38th.
Advice
Ranked White 34th. Parker was 20th, Jeffery all the way down at 72nd.
Sharks
White was ranked 31st. Parker 25th, Jeffery 34.
CBS
CBS appears to have had some premonition, esepcially about Parker. Analyst Heath Cummings placed him 12th in his personal rankings while colleague Jamey Eisenberg ranked him 10th. Dave Richard did not agree, ranking Parker at 25th, but he did include Jeffery in the last spot of his Top 20, while Eisenberg ranked him 23rd. Cummings was the odd man out on this one, ranking Jeffery at 33. No such foresight on White, however, as the analysts ranked him 28th, 31st and 33rd.
ESPN
Like CBS, the ESPN team liked both Parker and Jeffery more than the consensus. They actually ranked the two next to each other, with Jeffery at 19 and Parker 20th. The highest individual ranking for Jeffery was by Tristan H. Cockcroft, who listed him 14th among WRs. Cockroft also had a prescient take on White, ranking him 12th, while the overall consensus ranked White 19th.
Footballers
Ranked White 34th, Parker 20th, and Jeffery 34th.
Sharks
FantasySharks noted White's weak output against Dallas, but they also ranked him 20th. They did rank DeVante Parker 17th, with Jeffery 37th.
Sixpack
Ranked White 33rd. Parker 20th, Jeffery 44th.
FFToday
Ranked White solidly inside their Top 20, at 18th. Ranked Parker 17th and Jeffery 24th.
Diehards
Ranked Parker 20th and Jeffery 23rd. Ranked White 26th.
Fantasy
Ranked James White 17th among RBs, the highest ranking of any site (not counting Tristan Cockroft's individual ranking, as mentioned in the ESPN result). Among WRs they placed Parker 24th, and Jeffery 56th.
SleeperU
Had Parker ranked 29th and Jeffery 40th. Ranked White 31st.

VERDICT ANALYSIS:
As we can see by the ranking results, nobody really expected much from any of this trio this week. Kudos to CBS, they were really the only exception, with two of their three experts ranking Parker up in the teens. ESPN was the only site to rank all 3 in their Top 20, while FFToday also was above consensus on all 3 players. Fulltime's ranking of White at 17th was the highest among all the sites, and followers who started him as a RB2 or Flex were richly rewarded in many leagues' final week of the regular season.
